Bangkok has launched a new project to manage waste in the city sustainably, using an application. BKK Waste Pay To allow the public to register to join the project “This House Doesn’t Mix: Reduce Waste, Reduce Fees” which will help encourage people to separate waste at the source and result in reducing waste management fees in Bangkok. Advance registration is available starting today.

New registration details and fees
- General residential house (with waste not exceeding 20 liters/day or not exceeding 4 kilograms/day)
- If waste is not separated: Fee 60 baht/month (including waste collection fee 30 baht and waste disposal fee 30 baht)
- If you separate your waste and register: the fee is reduced to 20 baht/month (10 baht for waste collection and 10 baht for waste disposal).
- Housing estates or communities with more than 20 liters of waste per day But not more than 1 cubic meter/day or more than 4 kilograms but not more than 200 kilograms/day:
- Fee 120 baht per 20 liters (garbage collection fee 60 baht and garbage disposal fee 60 baht)
- Villages or organizations with waste volumes exceeding 1 cubic meter/day or more than 200 kilograms/day:
- Fee: 8,000 baht per cubic meter (garbage collection fee: 3,250 baht and waste disposal fee: 4,750 baht)
- Waste separation reduces the amount of waste that needs to be disposed of, thus reducing fees.

How to register
Registration is divided into 2 formats:
- Single registration
For general residential houses with a waste volume not exceeding 20 liters/day or 4 kilograms/day, homeowners or tenants who wish to participate in the project can register via the application. BKK Waste Pay Or you can register at the district office if you don't have a smartphone. The registration will use House ID 11 digits, name-surname, telephone number and photo of waste separation (food waste, recyclable waste, hazardous waste, general waste)- Registered households will receive free food waste bags for the first year.
- The system will randomly check waste sorting every 3 months.
- The new fee collection will begin after the new regulation takes effect in 2025.
- Group registration
For housing estates with juristic persons or communities with no more than 20 liters of waste per day per house or room, registration will begin on August 1, 2025.- A meeting of the legal entities is required to inform the details and methods for managing the 4 types of separated waste.
- Documents required for registration include meeting minutes and House ID.

Types of waste that must be separated
- Food waste
- Must be separated into green bags and disposed in a green bin or sent for compost, organic fertilizer, or animal feed.
- Food waste will be collected according to the schedule set by the district office.
- Recyclable waste
- Plastic bottles, glass bottles, paper, cans, etc. can be separated and disposed of at recycling points in communities or left with the Bangkok garbage trucks that run along the route.
- Hazardous waste
- For example, batteries, light bulbs, and gas cans should be disposed of in orange bins or in community hazardous waste collection activities.
- General waste
- Such as snack bags, plastic bags, coffee cups, foam boxes, throw them in the general trash (blue).

Recycling activities and networks
Bangkok also organizes activities to promote waste separation, such as community recycling markets and collaboration with waste-purchasing or waste-donation applications, as well as large-scale waste collection activities every Sunday, so that communities and citizens can work together to reduce the amount of waste in the city.
