“Surplus food” is food that is produced or purchased in excess of what is needed and must be discarded. Even though it can be consumed, most businesses or people choose to discard it.
But did you know that Bangkok can bring back this surplus food, make it valuable, pass it on, and share it with many people?
Bangkok has good intentions to implement the BKK Food Bank prototype project to solve the problem of food waste, excess food and deliver food to vulnerable groups in a tangible way. This is a collaboration between Bangkok and relevant networks to solve the problem of excess food by delivering to those in need, vulnerable groups, the poor, or those affected by disasters and public calamities in emergency situations. It creates a mechanism for delivering assistance between donors and recipients in a sustainable manner, solving the problem of food waste through the process of procuring, collecting, and delivering excess food ingredients (Food Surplus) from 'donors to recipients' to create food security for the public, and creating a management system for collecting various data, such as food donor networks, the number of people receiving assistance, the amount of food left over, and the amount of carbon that can be reduced, etc.
Currently, BKK Food Bank has a plan to develop and expand the project to cover all 50 districts in order to cover and reach the most vulnerable groups. It has started a pilot project in 4 districts: Huai Khwang District, Bang Khun Thian District, Phra Khanong District, and Bang Phlat District, with more than 40,000 people using the service.
Your excess food can be donated to Bangkok through the BKK Food Bank project, “Givers are full of merit, recipients are full of food.” This project is a small bridge of merit for Bangkokians and entrepreneurs to donate food to deliver to vulnerable groups.
